History
Boden was founded in 1991 by Johnnie Boden. at that time the company only had eight menswear products, womenswear was launched the following year. In 1996 the business introduced a children's clothing range called Mini Boden, its was inspired by Kate Barton who later became the company’s chief designer.
The UK website was launched in April 1999, and by 2002 the company had expanded with a U.S version of the site which currently generates one third of overall sales. 2003 saw the opening of Boden’s new warehouse facility in Leicestershire, and in 2004 the company’s first shop was opened in Hanger Lane, London.
New clothing range Baby Boden was introduced in 2007, it was also the year that saw Boden expand to Germany, with Austria following in 2009. In the summer of 2010 new teen clothing collection Johnnie B was created, with sizing available up to sixteen year olds. In 2011 the company announced turnover sale figures of £245 million, an increase of 6% from the previous year.
2014 saw the launch of an Australian website to compliment sites in the UK, Germany, Austria, and the U.S. The company announced in 2015 that it planned to open a number of physical outlets in addition to its store in London. Boden currently employs over 800 staff and has an estimated value of £300 million.
